La Machine Informatique EP Network Ensemble 2 Network Study I

Performance: Network Study XV

Approach from West India Quay and see what corpses have sprouted on the Isle of the Dead… Barclays – HSBC – Bank of America – Citigroup —
[…] In Cabot Square, descend through the mock deco hallways into the migraine hyperbright no-wonderland of the retail arcades.

On Wednesday 18 April the Network Ensemble was invited to perform at Borderline Festival 2018 as part of Telematic Hacking, a series of sonic events exploring the materiality of the Net.

The Network Ensemble performed a sonic exploration of cyber signals haunting the Docklands area of East London, through the cramped non-places of financial business and the addictive non-time of cyber busyness. “Free Wifi”, infinite scroll.

A custom-made machine collected live data from the wireless networks surrounding it, passing this data directly to a phone in the form of sound waves, via the audio port. The phone transmitted the sound around the world by means of a phone call, thus acting as a proxy, at once a receiver through its audio port and a transmitter through its antenna.
